The moral situation of Covid-19, summed up in two words — absent ideals. Well, maybe except for ulterior motives.

Four Corner’s Poking the Dragon portrays exactly that notion of shrouded diplomacy and preserved national interests during the heated tension between Australia and China in recent times.

A tad bit dramatized, yes, with consistent dolly zooms into facial expressions and menacing B&W filters coupled with random jabbing on a soundboard, which probably suit more appropriately in an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. But for national television, creating an awareness within the mainstream population of rising political tensions is surely much greater a feat than the analogy of an underperforming chef and an ‘idiot sandwich’.

Not a Michelin Star chef, but certainly provided an engaging source of political implications

But regardless of the interesting utilisation of film techniques, Four Corners conveys the impact of China’s hostile takeover of the planet — a big jump from their corporate behaviours, but perhaps Australia’s defiance to their trade decisions with Covid-19 has sent the message that the Green and Gold is not just unclaimed property land for billionaire Chinese investors.

We’ve got our own domestic property magnates, but maybe our billionaires should start investing into taking over Darwin Port?
